As a Guest you can view a subset of the information that is available to registered Members of Robert F. Walters Digital Geological Library.
A Guest can:
Search for wells and view well header data.
View the list of Paper Documents available for a well. Paper Documents can be ordered by phone from the Library.
View the list of Digital Documents available for a well.
Registered Members of the Library can also view high-quality Previews of all Digital Documents at no charge, open Previews in separate pop-up windows to view them simultaneously, and purchase Digital Documents in TIFF, PDF, or sometimes JPEG format. These functions are not available to a Guest.
Flash Plug-In
The Flash Plug-In must be installed in your browser. Flash is not yet available for 64-bit systems, therefore on such a system you will need to download a 32-bit browser and install the Flash Plug-In.
Browsers
The system runs best in FireFox on Windows. Supported browsers and platforms are Windows/FireFox, Windows/Internet Explorer, and Mac/FireFox. (Other platforms may be supported later on.) If you experience problems using these or other browsers/platforms please let us know.
JavaScript JavaScript must be enabled in your browser. If you are using FireFox with the Noscript add-on, you will need to allow scripts for this site.
Screen Resolution
The minimum supported screen resolution is 1024 pixels wide. We recommend using a higher resolution if your hardware supports it, so that you can view more information and avoid extra scrollbars. You can change the screen resolution in Windows at Start, Control Panel, Display, Settings (use the slider bar to adjust the resolution). Screen resolution is detected by this software when you sign in, so if you change it, please sign out and sign in again.
Window Size
Please maximize the size of the browser window to 100% or nearly so to provide all available screen space and avoid extra scrollbars.
At the lowest supported resolution of 1024 pixels wide, this is a requirement. If you shrink the browser window, the browser may add extra scrollbars and this is not a good thing.
Sign in to Robert F. Walters Digital Geological Library on the Kansas Geological Society and Library home page (kgslibrary.com), using username = 'guest' and password = 'guest'.
In the Search Wells form in the topmost frame, provide at least one search parameter by filling in one of the form fields.
Then click on the "Search" button.
If the search has returned at least one well, a table will appear in the topmost frame. This is the Wells grid.
If you click on a row in the Wells grid, any documents available for that well will be listed in the lower-left, blue frame.
To refine the search:
You can choose to view lists of Digital Documents (scanned images) or Paper Documents. Just check one or both checkboxes labeled "Doc. List" in the Search Wells form.
To search for certain types of documents (well logs, scout tickets, etc.), make a selection for Doc. Type. A Document Type of "Any" will filter the search to include only the wells that have documents (any type of document). Leaving Doc. Type blank will return all the wells, including those wells for which there are no documents.
To clear a form field, double-click in the field. To clear all form fields, click the "Clear" button.
